Good weekends!

Oooooooooooooh!
I have devoted all my efforts to write some posts on "A Pair of Silk Stocking".
I hope everyone will enjoy them.
Now I must take a rest!
Good weekends to everyone :))))))))))))))

Plot

Luckily, in my story the elements of plot structure are present and I can analyse them!
The plot runs as follows:
The story begins with the initiating incedent, when we get acquainted with Mrs. Sommers, who is a possessor of fifteen dollars, which sets the conflict of the story.
Then goes the rising action, when the main character is reflecting upon the investment of her money. She wants to spend some money on her children and on herself.
The climax is when Mrs. Sommers buys a pair of silk stockings. It is the highest emotional point.
The falling action which lead into the resolution of the story is the moment when Mrs. Sommers spends all her money on herself and wishes never to return to her real dull life.

Setting

Having read some literature, unexpectedly I have discovered, that "A Pair of Silk Stockings" is not only a short story by Kate Chopin telling about one woman. It turned out, that the events in the analysed text happen in the time of the repression of women and the story itself reflects the role of women in society.
Thus, the events in the story are taking place approximately in the end of XIX-beginning of the XX century. Mrs. Sommers lives in unnamed city, but it is big enough to have department stores, restaurants and theatres. The setting of the story is very important, as it was a time of opressing for women and of the strict boundaries between social classes, so it provides a background that contributes to our understanding and symbolizes the emotional state of the characters.
The setting of the events in this short story is definitely realistic. It is presented in a general way.
To my mind, the setting of the story is perfectly chosen for the events that are going on, because it intestifies and underlines the position and troubles that women had and faced at that time.

Kate Chopin

Good morning!
Today's post will be dedicated to the author of the story chosen by me, Kate Chopin.
American author Kate Chopin (1850–1904) is best-remembered for wring about a hundred short stories. Most of her best-known work focuses on the lives of sensitive and intelligent women. Chopin used her creative writing skills to express a point of view on different issues. She is considered to be the forerunner of the feminist authors of the 20th century.
Her major works were two short story collections: Bayou Folk (1894) and A Night in Acadie (1897).
Among her best-known short stories are: The Story of An Hour, Regret, A Pair of Silk Stockings, The Storm.
Chopin was widely recognized as one of the leading writers of her time. In 1915, Fred Lewis Pattee wrote, "some of [Chopin's] work is equal to the best that has been produced in France or even in America. [She displayed] what may be described as a native aptitude for narration amounting almost to genius."

My opinion and impression

Good morning to everyone!
Today I have time to read the story "A Pair of Silk Stockings" by Kate Chopin for the first time.
And now I would like to share my opinion about it :)
Sooooo, I like this story very much!
It turns out to deal with a topic close to every woman-shopping!
Frankly speaking, I feel sorry for Mrs, Sommers, who has no opportunity to think and take care of herself, as she is married and has children and she can't enjoy her life fully as she has other responsibilities.
This story makes me think of married life and self-realization!
Because even if you have your own family, you are not to give up your own life, feelings and needs!
So, it is a wonderful story to read and analyse and I will do it with pleasure! :)

New decision

So, according to the advice of my Stylistics teacher, I have made up to mind to change my story.
This time, my eye has lighted on a short story "A Pair of Silk Stockings" written by Kate Chopin, who is an author of many novels and short stories.

Why Chopin? Some of my groupmates also have chosen exactly her stories, and I was influenced by their choice as well. Moreover, I think it is an excellent opportunity to read a story written by a woman. As I am young woman as well, it will be interesting and excting for me to get acquinted with creative work of woman-writer, if I can say so.
So again, I hope this work will appeal to me and I will appreciate it greatly.
